ENCAUSTIC PAINTING

Transforming everyday objects from humble materials into delicately detailed paintings.

As I started painting with encaustic, I found myself utilizing fire with wax and wanting to further express the beauty of voluptuous vessels.

This led me to develop techniques that create sculpted dimensional images with deeply rich colored paintings varying from translucent to opaque values.

The various grounds (wallpapers) are created from cyanotype prints and altered art papers, setting the stage for my still life paintings. My current work utilizes cyanotype prints from my garden as the wallpaper behind the vessel.

My intention is to transform everyday objects from humble materials into
delicately detailed paintings.

CYANOTYPES

When COVID 19 emerged, everything changed. I found #100dayproject on Instagram.

In 2014, I was intrigued with a process for printing in the sun without dangerous chemicals, and I started making small Cyanotype prints. Soon, I began printing larger and creating grounds for my encaustic paintings.

Then COVID 19 - everything changed. I found #100dayproject on Instagram.

My project was photographing, printing and posting a cyanotype print a day. Images mostly from my flower garden. These beautiful prints organically became its own series.

The current series of cyanotype prints in 2023 continue to bring a new perspective. Expanding my interest into creating still life compositions with flowers from the garden. The prints document the cycle of seasonal blooms in a stunningly unique and beautiful format.
